Laura A. Foggan
Laura has more than 35 years of experience litigating complex, high-value insurance claims in trial and appellate courts. She has served as lead counsel in insurance disputes involving commercial general liability, property, cyber, aviation, professional liability, and bad faith claims. In addition to her litigation work, Laura counsels insurers and reinsurers on pivotal, emerging issues such as liabilities arising from use of artificial intelligence, biometrics, climate change, microplastics, PFAS, opioids, data privacy and ransomware.
Laura has the rare distinction of being recognized both as a leading trial lawyer in high stakes coverage matters and a preeminent appellate practitioner. She has participated in over 400 appeals in state and federal courts across the country, including numerous seminal cases establishing key precedents for insurance coverage matters. She regularly represents the national insurance trade associations as well as leading domestic and global insurance companies. Laura is the go-to attorney for amicus support in important insurance appeals, including in multiple cases before the US Supreme Court.
Laura also has substantial experience with insurance and reinsurance arbitration matters, including having served as a party-appointed arbitrator in multiple matters. She has served as an expert in connection with insurance issues, and as a liaison on multiple projects of the American Law Institute, including the Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance. She teaches liability insurance and cyber insurance law at the University of Connecticut School of Law, Insurance Law Center. A fellow in the American College of Coverage Counsel, Laura is also a past chair of the ABA’s Section of Litigation, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee.
