Michael J. Gridley

Michael J. Gridley represents insurers in complex coverage litigation involving professional liability, general liability, and property insurance coverage. He advises insurers on a wide range of insurance issues, including transactional liability, directors and officers liability, legal malpractice and other errors and omissions claims, environmental liability, bodily injury and property damage claims, bankruptcy, technology, emerging issues, and bad faith.

Mike represents insurers in coverage disputes in federal and state courts, including motions practice, discovery, briefing, argument, and trial. He has extensive experience addressing complex discovery and trial readiness issues, counseling clients on risk management strategies, and helping develop practical solutions to resolve underlying exposures. 

Mike also has experience conducting portfolio-wide exposure assessments for critical business lines and providing strategic advice for current and future claims practices. His appellate experience includes representing an insurer before the Delaware Supreme Court in a coverage dispute involving hundreds of asbestos claims, resulting in reversal of a $14 million judgment and direction that judgment be entered for the insurer. 

Before joining LRD, Mike served as Associate Counsel at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he handled employment litigation matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, and federal district and appellate courts. He also has significant pro bono litigation and trial experience, including matters involving ADA issues affecting students with mental illness, child custody and adoption, Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, and prisoners’ rights.

Mike lives in Cicero, New York with his cat, Pickles.
