Theresa focuses her insurance practice on representing insurers in connection with general liability, D&O, professional liability, and cyber liability issues. She counsels insurers on underlying exposures of securities and derivative litigation as well as a broad range of first- and third-party liability insurance coverage issues involving duty to defend, additional insured, and bad faith exposure.
Theresa has extensive experience in complex business and real property litigation and business counseling. She represents corporate and individual clients in a variety of civil litigation matters at both the trial and appellate court levels in federal and state courts, including cases involving breach of contract, trade secrets, noncompetition covenants, fraud, real estate purchase agreements, director/officer liability, and defamation. She regularly advises clients on litigation avoidance strategies, and drafts and negotiates commercial contracts.
Theresa also has experience in criminal matters. She has represented numerous defendants in criminal cases in federal court as a Criminal Justice Act panel attorney in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. She currently serves as a part-time Magistrate Judge in Glynn County, Georgia, where she conducts felony preliminary hearings, bond hearings, and warrant application hearings, and reviews arrest and search warrants, in addition to adjudicating an array of civil matters.
Theresa served as the Editor in Chief of the Georgia Law Review, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law, where she was selected as a member of the Order of the Coif. Theresa began her legal career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Lisa Godbey Wood in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia in Brunswick, Georgia. She is the current Chair of the Court Advisory Committee of the Southern District, where she also serves on the Civil Local Rules Committee.
Theresa lives on St. Simons Island with her husband, Chip, and their three children. Theresa is active in the local community, and is both a former Chair and graduate of Leadership Glynn.
